Una comparación de dos escalas de autocontrol para predecir actos antisociales/criminales.

Resumen

El autocontrol es una característica estable cuya variación a nivel individual es crucial para comprender la propensión criminal, siendo la Low Self-Control Scale (LSCS) y la Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS) las escalas de autocontrol más conocidas. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo comparar la LSCS y la BSCS en el contexto de sus capacidades predictivas de comportamientos antisocial/criminal, violencia, problemas con la ley, arresto, encarcelamiento y abuso de alcohol y drogas. Se utilizó una muestra de conveniencia, recogida en Portugal, formada por 242 participantes (M = 30,19 años; SD = 12,78; rango = 16-77 años) de la comunidad general y que respondieron a la LSCS, BSCS entre otros instrumentos psicométricos relevantes. La LSCS demostró ser el mejor predictor de los resultados antisocialidad/criminalidad, evaluación de la violencia y arresto por la policía. Para los resultados problemas con la ley y tiempo en prisión, la LSCS y la BSCS mostraron coeficientes de regresión estadísticamente significativos, con la LSCS obteniendo valores ligeramente superiores. Para el resultado abuso de alcohol y drogas, la LSCS y la BSCS mostraron coeficientes estadísticamente significativos, con magnitudes similaresLos resultados indican que, en comparación con la BSCS, la LSCS es un mejor predictor del comportamiento antisocial, la violencia y la implicación con el sistema judicial.
