The conformation of the professional field on journalism and the professional context in Brazil

Abstract

In the first decade of this century, the journalism profession is challenged at the judicial level and the requirement of obligatory diploma to pursue the profession is suspended. Returns on the national scene the discussion whether or not an expertise in journalism. National and regional institutions that represent the category with associations of researchers, academics and teachers locked in a legal struggle, social and political defense of the profession and its area of expertise. This reflection brings an analysis of the transformations of journalism professionalization process, its historical struggles and the contribution of regional meetings of journalism professors of the South region of the country in the conformation the professional field. The aim is to point out the relevance of the discussions and positions of the South region in line with the search for legitimacy of journalism and the academic training of journalists. The procedures adopted were fundamentally documentary research and literature on the journalism field transformations and career professionalization process. Among the results is the recognition of the participation of regional groups in the shaping the professional in journalism and the need to document and systematize important movements of this historical period of the profession.
