Os filmes de Luiz de Barros na Cinédia dos anos 1930: estilo e encenação em profundidade

Abstract

If the track of more than sixty years of Luiz de Barros' career remains largely unexplored, this paper analyzes the spatial configuration and in-depth staging strategies of three films by Luiz de Barros in the Cinédia of the thirties: O jovem tataravô (1936), O samba da vida (1937) and Maridinho de luxo (1938). Through stylistic analysis (Bordwell, 2008, 2013), we seek to observe whether the in-depth staging builds dramatic meanings, precise demarcation of scene, and advantages over the editing process in order to guide the viewer's attention to what happens within the shot at specific times in the film.
