Abstract

In Faces of Auschwitz, project by Brazilian artist Marina Amaral, some identification portraits made in the Nazi extermination camp are colorized and presented with writings narrating the trajectories of photographed prisoners or the history of Holocaust. The article, deepening previous research conducted by the authors, investigates the relations between images and texts in order to understand how they enable the possibility of an imaginative realization for the celebration of the subjects and the event that victimized them. More precisely, the paper observes how photos and words collaborate to expose a biographical condition capable of (re)founding testimonies.
