Abstract

The academic article aims to highlight the realistic character of the theoretical formulations found in the early works of Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, both in his fiction films and in his documentaries. Such investigation follows the assumptions of the Filmmaker’s Theory and, for the purpose of realistic theoretical marking in cinema, the traditional concepts of André Bazin and Siegfried Kracauer are fundamentally considered. Finally, it is pondered that the filmmaker's initial works point to for a double realism, both in content and form, and that they can be elucidated as theoretical formulations in films. Thus, the films Garrincha, Alegria do Povo (1963) and O Padre e a Moça (1966) are taken for analysis.
