Journalistic check in post-truth times: the case of JBS’s allegations involving president Michel Temer

Abstract

In a time marked by the diffusion of fake news, this paper aims to approach Brazilian journalistic initiatives that seek to verify the veracity of information in an exploratory research. For that, introduces the concept of post-truth and its relation with the political context. Then, selects two examples of fact-checking related to disclosure, in May 2017, of allegations of JBS entrepreneurs about illicit acts by high-level government officials, including President Michel Temer. Finally, highlights other actions in Brazil that are taking a special look at fact-checking. Is considered that fact-checking projects support to oppose post-truth and can be a contribution for democracy exercise and construction of critical and complex thinking.
