A representação das minorias sociais em narrativas cinematográficas:

uma análise a partir da perspectiva de Appadurai

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to verify the representation of social minorities at the Film Industry of the United States and England that put indian people, women, black people, LGBTs and immigrants at the center of their narratives. The theoretical basis proposed is Arjurn Appadurai (2009) and his concept of minorities with points from Sergei Moscovici’s theory of representation (2003; 2009) as a complement. The research technique used was Content Analysis. As main results, there is the emphasis that these representations were built by dominant elites, based on reductionist ethnocentric concepts and narrow universalisms that corroborate a rooted view in the ideas of nation-state and national sovereignty.
