School pricipal training and the challenges of professional pratice

Abstract

This research sought to identify the challenges faced by principals and to analyze the possibilities of continuing education that contribute to the effectiveness of the professional practice of the school principal. The qualitative approach, complemented by bibliographic research and field research, through a focus group with five school principals of the municipal school system of Santo André/SP, outlined the development of the work. The results show that the educational needs must be considered by the school systems, enabling continuing education programs for their managers. In this sense, it is considered that the training agendas need to be flexible and adapted to emerging issues and the school daily routine.  Furthermore, it is understood that the moments of listening and the exchange of experiences among peers contribute effectively to the strengthening of the work of principals.
