ANTONIO GRAMSCI AND THE UNION QUESTION: AN ANALYSIS WITH EMPHASIS ON POLITICAL WRITINGS

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to present theoretical elements of Antônio Gramsci's work that contribute to a conception about the role of unions. Therefore, it is assumed that the Gramscian writings reveal the commitment of the author's thought to the social transformation process. In this sense, we will seek, at first, to indicate the notion of the expanded state in Gramsci, relating it to the debate about the political and economic struggle. From then on, we will discuss, based on political writings, the role of unions in the revolutionary perspective. Finally, we will indicate a possible relationship between parties, unions and factory councils in the Marxist thought of this Italian intellectual.
